Homegrown turai / tori  (Hindi) / Ridge gourd (English) / Jinge (Bengali)

This year, initially, I sowed seeds in my yard garden and give support those vines so that those can reach at rooftop garden. I got only two plants from seeds. One died early due to construction work at our premise. Second plant produced a few ridge gourd vegetables. I also sowed some seeds in pots after first plant died. Then, I got three plants more. So now I have total 4 plants. Each one are producing fruits. Since last 6-7 weeks, I am getting 2-3 ridge gourd almost every week. So I am happy with the result.

All of those are naturally grown. I applied enough compost fertilizer in the soil. Now after every 10 days I am applying liuid mustard cake fertilizer in soil.

  • I also use dashparni ark, a homemade insecticide after every 10 days. Dashparni ark is a traditional pesticide for natural farming.
  • I use butter milk as fungicide as well as insecticide after every 10 days.
  • Though I was using all natural inputs for growing vegetables. But a few months back, I own a contest and got prize that includes 5kg NPK 18 18 18, 1 ltr IFFCO Sagarika (Seaweed extracts) and a 16 ltr spray machine. So I started applying those on my plants. I am getting excellent result after applying those products. So every months I apply 3 sprays of npk 18 18 18 & Sagarika; then npk 18 18 18 & Humic acid and micronutrients with 10 days gap.

That means, almost every 3-4 days, I use a spray of my plants. I follow the same schedule of spray on all of my plants in my garden.
