Nowadays people often say that tofu is much better than panner. Tofu is healthier than paneer. It contains less calorie & less fat. It is also said that tofu comes with a lot of other nutritional benefits. Some people may say that what is tofu? It is nothing but coagulating soy milk. Chinese people are consuming it for thousands of years. It is also originated from there. But nowadays people always compare it with paneer. Paneer is also super healthy food and very popular in India. But which one would I pick (or you will pick) if I have both options?
Being a foodie I would not start analysis which one is healthier because both have a lot of vitamins, minerals and other nutritional values. So these are the parameters for me to pick the best for me.
Better in taste: No doubt most Indian will say paneer is better in taste because we are consuming it since our childhood and no doubt it is tasty. We love paneer based dishes a lot and we can not make all those dishes with tofu instead of paneer. So if we consider the taste then paneer is more preferable than tofu.
Price comparison: Though soy milk is very expensive in India. Mostly branded soy milk is available in the market and it is being sold as a healthy drink. 1 lt of soy milk is priced minimum Rs 100 in India whereas cow milk is available for Rs 500 approximately. But is not as expensive as soy milk is. I do not know why it is so. Price of tofu is approximately the same as paneer. So price does not play an important role for this purpose.
Availability of Tofu & paneer: Tofu is hardly available at a local general store. I need to visit a supermarket for this purpose. Actually tofu is not popular in India and many people do not know about tofu. Even there are many people who never heard about such food called tofu in our locality, haha. So we can never expect that tofu would available at the local market. So availability of tofu is an important issue. So being a lazy person I would prefer paneer over tofu.
Health issues: Both tofu & paneer are full of nutritional values. But there are some elements which found more in paneer whereas there are some elements which found less in paneer. So foodies can not understand which is good for us and which is not. Unless we face a problem and see a doctor. Till then I would go for paneer.
