10th July 2022 was Devshayani ekadashi. It is an auspicious day that comes on the eleventh day of sukla paksha in the month of Asadha of Hindu calender. It is also known as Vishnu Shayani ekadashi. Shayani means sleeping. That means Vishnu is sleeping on that day on the Sheshnaag in Skheersagar as per Hindu mythology. Lord Vishnu was on Yoga nidra on this day for four months. This four months are known as “Chaturmaas”. After four months on the day of prabodhini ekadashi Lord Vishnu awakes from yoga nidra. Nag Panchami is a popular festival in some parts of the country. This is the day when Hindu people worship the snake as a deity. Many worshippers draw pictures of snakes on the wall of their houses. Many people bring an idol of snake made with silver, wood, clay etc. There are many people who worship real snakes on this day.
