August 4, 2020 By admin Leave a Comment

Gardening is not always costly. Sometimes it is even super beneficial. Most people do gardening because they love plants or greenery. It is a way to decor your premise. People decor their backyard with many beautiful garden whereas some people prefer to brings greenery into their home. A garden with full of beautiful flowers can give you a lot of happiness. But sometimes it comes with a lot of expense. So many people refrain themselves from such thing. But do you know that you can save thousands of bucks per month from your garden. I saved Rs 1200 last month from just 50 pots small kitchen garden.

Save Rs 1200 per month from your 50 pots kitchen garden

I have 6 brinjal plants grown in six 12 inch or 14 inch pots. I have 12 okra/bhindi plants grown in six 10 inch pots. I have 8 yardlong beans plants grown in six 10 inch pots. I am growing 6 cucumber plants grown in five 10 inch as well as 14 inch pots. I also own 4 bitter gourd vines and those vines are grown in four 10 inch grow bags/pot. There are 2 malabar spinach vines and those are grown in two 10 inch size pots. There 3 pomegranate plants in my garden and all of those plants are grown in three plastic container of different sizes. 1 grafted starfruit plant is there, probably that plant is Thai variety which is grown in one 14 inch size plastic bucket. There six small pots for my water spinach plants. All of those water spinach plants are rapid grower, so I need to apply nitrogen rich liuid fertilizer every week. I have a few summer coriander plants (culantro) which I am growing in two medium size pots. Kadi patta is also an essentials herbs for various Indian dishes. That is why I have one curry leaves plant grown in plastic grow bag. I also have Brahmi plants grown in three small size plastic containers. Apart from all those I have a lemon tree grown in one 8 inch pot. There are four  more 10 inch size grow bags where I planted 4 tomato seedlings.

Rainy season is the most critical season for every gardener because of heavy rains. Rains may cause of fungus attack, water logging on rooftop garden or yard garden. Gardeners often face difficulties to apply fertilizers particularly liuid fertilizer or water soluble chemical fertilizers. That why I reduce number of pots/bags/containers during this season. So less number of pots make the garden manageable during this season.

So here is the list of vegetables & fruits I grew in July and approximate amount of vegetables & fruits I harvested throughout the month

  • 2.5 kg brinjal = (2.5*80) = Rs 200
  • 2.25 kg okra = (2.25*90)= Rs 202.5
  • 2.5 kg yardlong beans (borboti/green lobia) = (2.5*85) =Rs 212.5
  • 3 kg cucumber = (3*75) = Rs 225
  • 2 kg bitter gourd = (2*100) = Rs 200
  • 3 bundles malabar spinach  = (3*15) = Rs 45
  • 3 bundle water spinach   = (3*5) = Rs 15
  • 4 bundle brahmi   = (4*5) = Rs 20
  • 2 bundle clumantro = (2*10) = Rs 20
  • 3 bundles mint/pudina = Rs 30
  • 1 pomegranate = Rs 20
  • 5 starfruits = Rs 15

So total amount of vegetables & fruits I have harvested in the last month is (200+202.5+212.5+225+200+45+15+20+20+30+20+15) = Rs 1205

Though the amount is nothing as compared with happiness & joy what I experienced during kitchen gardening.
