Saunf is a popular spice in India. It is also popular in the various regions across the world. Many people also consume it as a mouth freshener. It has a very special aroma and is slightly sweet in taste. That is why most people love to eat saunf after having a meal.  It is also used to make various Ayurvedic medicines. But most people love this spice because of its strong aroma what feels refreshed. It is a common spice that is also used to make various dishes. Though saunf is a Hindi word. In Bengali, it is known as mouri. But do you know the name of saunf in English?

What is called saunf in English?

The scientific name of saunf is Foeniculum vulgare. It belongs to the carrot family. But still, it is not a root vegetable. It is called fennel in English. It is a strong flavorful herb.

I think everybody knows what is fennel spice. You have definitely consumed this spice several times in your life. It is a very strong aromatic spice. This spice is native to the Mediterranean. It is used to make various Indian curries, sweet dishes like chutneys & many other traditional sweet items.
