Sambaram recipe – Kerala style spicy buttermilk

May 18, 2019 By admin Leave a Comment

I love buttermilk. It helps us to maintain body temperature during summer. I think everybody loves to quench his thirst with a glass of chilled buttermilk and keep his body hydrated. There are many types of buttermilk available across the different region of the world. But this Kerala style spicy buttermilk is very special & unique. It is called as sambaram drink. The sambaram recipe is also very simple and you can see a lot of street drink vendors across the Indian state Kerala during the summer season.

In Bengal, buttermilk is called as ghol. As Bengali prefer sweetness a lot. So you won’t find anything different in ghol too. We Bengali actually prefer sweet ghol too. But Bengali people who travelled a lot or stayed in different cities always want to try different types of food & drink. So why not this type of buttermilk too? In Northern Indian states, most people call it as chaas. They love this chaas salt or sometimes spicy too.

But adding green chillies to buttermilk is really different. When I was staying in Maharashtra that time I tried such spicy buttermilk at a Keralite restaurant. But never tried such buttermilk at home. But today I decided to make that awesome summer special refreshing drink at home.

I normally love to have sweet buttermilk anytime after the meal or before the meal. But this spicy buttermilk or sambaram drink is special one. So I like it to have during having my meal.

Unlike other sweet buttermilk, it contains very less amount of calorie because here sugar is not added. Instead of sugar, finely chopped fresh green chillies are added, haha. Its just out of this world, beyond my imagination but surprisingly I love to have this during lunch or dinner because it makes my meal better in taste. Don’t you trust me? Then try this today along with your lunch or dinner. You will really enjoy your meal more than any other day.
