10 popular Indian raita – Which one you prefer most?

Raita is a common and popular food in North India. It is available in various types based on its ingredients. Most popular raita among several others are boondi raita, onion raita, cucumber raitha, aloo raitha, tomato raita, plain raita, pudina raita, fruit raitha etc. You can have it with almost everything (roti, paratha, naan, rice, pulao, biriyani etc). It is such a dish what complete every meal.

There is a popular sentence “raita mat faila” what people use to say when somebody does a mess or blunder. 😀 You can understand how popular it is actually. I don’t know the actual story behind this but have heard this thing many times. 😉 If you know this then please share with other readers.

It is preferable with aloo paratha for breakfast. Raita is equally delicious with pulao and biriyani for lunch. Paneer dish (paneer bhurji, paneer masala etc), roti and raita are most favorite in dinner for many people. Though some people avoid raita and curd made things for dinner, but many people like to have this for dinner too.

Popular Indian raita items

Boondi raita

It is most common Indian raita and most of the people have tasted this. Roasted masala powder and boondi are main ingredients of it. It is garnished with some coriander leaves but it is optional.

Onion raita

Onion raita has its own flavor and taste. Many people like it most. Dal chawal and onion raita is the best meal for lunch.

Cucumber raita

During summer people prefer it as it is good for controlling body temperature and skin too. People prefer it at home and restaurants.

Aloo raita

You can easily change raita’s ingredients according to your taste. Aloo raita has its own taste. Boiled sweet potato pieces and sour curd will give you a different taste. If you have not tasted it then you can try it at home.

Tomato raita

Tomato raita is not so popular but some people like it so much. The smell of ripe tomato gives this a different flavor.

Plain raita

It is very common Indian raita. Roasted masala and coriander leaves are great combinations with curd. Some people add chopped green chilies.

Pudina raita

In north Indian pudina leaves are very preferable. People like its smell & flavor. That is why people add pudina (mint) leaves and have it very often.

Mix vegetable raita

You can make raita with almost every vegetable what you like. So many people like mix vegetable raita too. If you have not yet tried then try it.

Fruit raita

This is another favorite Indian raita for fruit lovers. You can add mangoes, pineapple etc as its ingredients. Try it at home.

Capsicum raita

If you like capsicum then you should try capsicum raita too. Many people like it so much.

There are so many other Indian raita available in various restaurants. Some people have their own special raita recipe too and like to have that often.
