Momo is a famous street food in Indian. You can see a roadside momo seller at almost every market place across the country. Many people will say that it is a Tibetan food. Many people say it is originated from Tibet. But it is a food from Himalaya Mountain regions. It’s native to Tibet, Nepal & Sikkim. The taste of this food may differ from one place to another. But the basic food is the same. But do you know what is momos in English? More particularly, what is the meaning of momo in English? Do you know that?
Well, for foodies, it is a super delicious & healthy snack. But if you really want to know meaning of momo in English then I would say that it is name of a food from Himalaya mountain region. It is not a word from a particular language. So you can not find a exact meaning of momos in English.
Still, I would say, in English, momo is a steamed dumpling which is filled with meat, fish, vegetables, spices etc.
The dough for the dumpling is made with all purpose flour. Dough is prepared to make the thin layer that will cover the filling items.
The filling items are prepared with various vegetables, meat, fishes, eggs, paneer etc. Based on various types of filling items, we name various types of momos.

Chicken momos: Momos are basically prepared with chicken or meat in those region from where it is originated. It is very tasty as well as healthy.
Veg momos: Veg momos are also popular in various parts across the country. Cabbage, carrot, green onions, spring onion etc are common items to prepare stuffing items of veg momos. If you can make veg momo at home then you are free to add your favorite vegetables to make its stuffing.
Paneer momos : I have see paneer momos only in some parts of Northern Indian states. I do not know whether it actually available anywhere in India. It is not available in my locality (Belgharia, Kolkata). But paneer is a favorite food in Northern Indian states where many people are pure vegetarian. Probably this is the reason why paneer momo is popular there.
Egg momos : It is another unusual type of momo. Scrambled egg is used to make its stuffing. You hardly find any shop in your locality where it is available. So if you want to taste it then you should make it at home. I often make those at home. It is very easy to make such stuffing items at home.
Momos chutney: Momos are tasteless without this chutney. It is super spicy & perfect chutney for momos. If you want to try momo for the first time then do not try momos without this chutney. You may hate momos without that hot & spicy chatni. It is a taste maker for those soft dumplings.
