Bengali people love adda. Politics, cinema, music, sports are the most common topic of any adda. From teenagers to senior citizens, everybody enjoys spending time in an informal conversation with friends & family. People do not even realize how hours passed in such an informal conversation. So they will certainly feel hungry during the adda. So tea (chai) along with some snacks are the most expected things by people who love to spend hours in adda with friends & family members. Here is my recent food menu for chai pe adda – Ghugni chaat & lemon tea.
If you are a Bengali or living in the Eastern region of the country, then you definitely know what ghugni is.
It is a popular snack in West Bengal, Bihar and neighbouring country Bangladesh too. You can find a ghugni-wala at any market area in this region during evening time. It is a white peas based simple snack.
I love this ghoogni for dinner along with roti. You just need to boil white peas, potato, tomato pieces in pressure cooker along with pinches of turmeric powder, salt and a few pieces of green chillies. But when it is served as a snack or chaat then people prefer something spicy.
I love ghugni chaat served with roasted cumin powder, roasted coriander powder and roasted red chilli powder. I love to spread some pieces of raw onion, cucumber, tomato, green chillies and lemon juice over the ghugni. This way everybody makes the simple ghugni into ghugni chaat. Will you?
I had this awesome chai pe adda special ghugni chaat along with lemon tea a few days ago. I just loved the taste. It was super spicy. I often have soft bread along with such chaat. But the bread was not available at our kitchen at that evening.
So did you ever try such snack during tea time? Which one is your favorite snack for chai pe adda?
