Rituals Before (Marwadi shadi) Wedding
Engagement Ceremony
Also known as Sagaai ceremony which is held at groom’s place. This ceremony is attended by family members and close friends of both families. Bride’s father or brother apply Tilak on bride’s forehead in presence of male family members only.
Ganpati Sthapna & Grihashanti Ceremony
Both family members worship God Ganesha and seeking for blessing of Ganpati
Pithi Dastoor
This ceremony is performed by both families where family members apply turmeric & sandalwood paste on bride & groom’s face, feet and body.
Mehfils
This part includes ladies’ sangeet and bachelor’s party. So all ladies from both families get involved in Sangeet ceremony in presence of bride. They all participate in singing and dancing. Whereas groom’s friends and cousins get involved in the party.
Mahira Dastoor Ceremony
In this ceremony, maternal uncles of both families give gifts to the members of the house.
Mehendi
Most enjoyable moments for ladies, particularly in bride family when they apply henna dye on their hand and feet. They believe it is a sign of happiness.
Palla Dastoor
Another special ceremony where bride worships Goddess Gauri for her blessing and seeking happiness and love throughout her life.

Arrival of Baraat
Groom comes at bride’s place with his family members and close friends.
Groom Welcome Customs
Bride’s mother and other female members from her family welcome groom with flower, sweet and aarti.
Kanyadaan
Bride’s father or other elder male member hand her over to groom’s hand and groom promise him for taking her responsibility for rest of the life.
Saptapadi / phere
Saat phere or saptapadi is an importan Hindu wedding ritual. Here couple walk around the holy fire for 7 times. First 3 rounds, bride leads whereas groom leads last four rounds.
Sumangalika
This is one most important (Marwari) wedding rituals when groom apply sindoor on bride’s upper forehead. This sindoor is the most important indicator of marital status of a hindu female.
Ashirvad
Now couple seek blessing of elder people of both families. Here it completes (Marwari) wedding and both groom & bride become husband & wife.

Gatte ki pulao
Vegetables are not available throughout the year in Rajasthan. It high scarcity of water, many dessert area. So people use such thing what can be store longer period or which is easily available there. That is why you can see besan or chick pea flour made items are used in various food. Gatta is also another besan made food. Besan and other ingredients are mixed and made dough and finally make small pieces of raw gatta which are boiled and deep fried in oil. Such gaata pieces are used to make pulao. This gatte ki pulao is very delicious and very popular in Rajasthan.
Ker Sangri
It is fusion of ker berry and sangri beans and some other common used spices. This ker sangri dish is preferred by Marwari people. You can often see this dish in Marwari wedding food menu.
Raita
Raita is very popular in Northern India and also in some western states of India. In Rajasthan it is also very popular. Its main ingredients are curd (dahi) & spices (coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, salt, black salt etc). Boondi, vegetables etc are added to make different types of raita.
Halwa
Halwa is very common dessert in Marwaari wedding food menu. There some varieties in halwa, like Moong dal halwa, Badaam ka halwa etc.
Ghevar
It a traditional Rajasthani sweet dish. Not so popular in other states of India, except some neighboring states of Rajasthan. Main ingredients of this food are all purpose wheat flour, corn flour and sugar.
Balushahi
Though it is very popular in Rajasthan but it is not originated from there. It is very popular in many other states in India. This is made of all purpose flour and sugar syrup.
Jalebi
