Jackfruit is a very special summer fruit in India. Many people love this fruit. It is a popular fruit in this region. Do you know that jackfruit is the state fruit of Indian state Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu? Not only that it is National fruit of Bangladesh too. In most cases, you eat fruits and throw its seeds into the garbage din because those seeds are not useful unless you want to grow seedlings. But jackfruit seeds are edible and these seeds are used to make various traditional dishes too. Kathal bichi bharta/makha
I love this bharta. It is very simple and tasty. Only a few ingredients are needed to make this awesome dish. Many people also add prawns to this. Jackfruit nuts lovers must try this homemade traditional food.
Roasted Jackfruit seeds (kathal bichi)
It is simple roasted jackfruit nuts. Nothing else. I used to eat a lot of such roasted nuts in my childhood. Overeating of this snack may cause digestion problem what I faced multiple number of times.
Paat shak/saag (jute leaves curry with jackfruit seeds)
Did you ever eat jute leaves curry? It is a simple leafy veg curry what I love to eat with Bengali style mustard sauce (Kasundi). If you make such paat shaker jhol with kathal bichi then it becomes more enjoyable.
Pui shak/saag (Malabar spinach curry with jackfruit seeds)
Another leafy vegetable curry where you can add jackfruit nuts that is malabar spinach. I have grown these leafy vegetable in my rooftop kitchen garden. So I often harvest fresh leaves & stems to make delicious pui shak, sometime we add jackfruit nuts to this dish.
Fresh or dried bombil fish curry (lote mach or shutki mach with jackfruit seeds)
Sundried bombil fish or fresh bombil fish both are very popular in West Bengal as well as Bangladesh. Both of those fishes are often cooked with mixed vegetables. So you can add handful jackfruit nuts to make it more healthy & enjoyable.
