Indian yogurt drink with mint leaves, refreshing pudina lassi

March 29, 2018 By admin Leave a Comment

Indian yogurt drink or lassi is very popular in Northern states of India. Though there are various types of lassi is available across those states but Mint based Indian yogurt drink (pudina lassi) is one of the most common summer drinks. Though I prefer both sweet & sour both types of Indian yogurt drink. But some people avoid sweet lassi due to extra added sugar.

Mint leaves (or pudina patta in Hindi) are often added to make this flavored & more refreshing. In Northern India, many people love this mint based Indian yogurt drink (or pudina lassi) whereas in West Bengal people do not prefer mint leaves in lassi. Not only that here you will hardly find people who will prefer sour lassi than sweet lassi.

There are some stalls near Sealdah railway station, West Bengal. They sell awesome sweet lassi. During my college days, I often loved to drink from those stalls. Those lassi were very thick & sweet Indian yogurt drink. They used to add extra sweet yogurt on the top before serving. I used to buy such lassi at Rs 5 and a special yogurt drink (lassi) used to available at Rs 8 only.

Another very popular lassi stall is at Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas district. No salty or sour yogurt drink is available because all Bengalis prefer thick & sweet lassi only. But those are really refreshing, healthy & unbelievably super delicious.

Differently flavored lassi are also available across this region. Apart from mint based refreshing Indian yogurt drink, I love restaurant style sweet mango lassi, mouth-watering delicious litchi lassi etc.

Lassi is often served at Indian wedding reception party, particularly at North Indian marriage party.
