1. Pagulpan ki hadh hain – Buy vegetable seeds
Some people may think that you became mad and doing something super crazy. Your family may think so, not only that you may think so that when you will start to do it. “Pagulpan ki hadh ho gaya yaar”. But you will be happy when your seeds will start germinating and finally when you will harvest fruits & vegetables. You can buy seeds or seedling from the local nursery. But if you do not have any nursery or plant shop near your vicinity then you can easily buy those online. Buy only those seeds which are native to your locality & suitable for your weather because it will make your gardening easy.
2. Pandemic mein shopping – Purchase gardening essentials
If you are the first-time gardener then you may need some tools for gardening, particularly for digging soil, mixing potting mix etc. But most households definitely have some equipment or tools to deal potting mix or soil. But apart from tools, you will definitely need fertilizers, pesticide, fungicide etc. You can buy organic pesticide & fungicide from the items available in your kitchen. You can make kitchen compost for reducing gardening cost. But if you are the first-time gardener then you need to follow Jungle ka kanoon (Rule of the forest) wala mitti for your potting mix. Then you will know what all fertilizers you will need for gardening and how to make a perfect potting mix. So let’s go for shopping during this pandemic.
3. Jungle ka kanoon wala mitti – Prepare own potting mix
Now what is Jungle ka kanoon wala mitti? Do you know? When I started gardening and I have no idea about gardening or rooftop farming then I followed these rules to make the perfect potting mix.
Nature is such a thing what does not need any management by the human. It is naturally beautiful & perfect. So if you want to make your own rule & control nature then it will definitely harm you in the near future. The plant is also a part of nature, so it does not need any management by the human.
So I started observing or thinking about the soil of any forest. What are elements available there?
- The first thing that comes in my mind is compost (prepared with fallen leaves, animal poops, dead animal).
- The second thing that comes in my mind is bone & horn of dead animal because lions, tiger, wolf etc leave those parts of the body of dead animal after eating.
- Billions of microorganism
So So the most important thing of any potting mix is compost fertilizer, I prefer to use atleast two types of compost preferably vermicompost & kitchen waste compost. For me, horn meal and bone meal are optional. I normally add horn meal & bone meal to the plants which live many years like fruit plants.
4. Bhar do hara rang – Grow your own vegetables
Once you have arranged everything. Then it’s time for growing fruits & vegetable plants. Apply atleast one type of organic pesticide (neem oil, garlic extracts, lemongrass extracts) every week. I prefer to alternate pesticide every week. Apply any liquid fertilizer (mustard cake, compost extracts etc) every week to maintain growth & health of every plant. Apply all those and within a few weeks, your garden will be green & beautiful.
Initially, when I started gardening I read many online articles, watched many videos for hours to learn gardening. I was scared after knowing this. People are saying different things for different plants. Preparations of soil are different for different plants. I am shocked. How will I manage 20 types of vegetable plants at times? It was impossible. It was like I was there for doing my PhD.
So I unlearned everything and started gardening simple way. I applied same potting mix. That too prepared with same amount garden soil & compost fertilizer. Sometimes I used to add handful sand. That’s it. I got decent result. Chemical fertilizers are like
