This was my first of growing watermelon plants. These plants are annual plants and a very very fast grower. You can not imagine that those plants will spread rapidly all over your area provided for those vines. Before growing watermelon vines I do not have any idea about “How long does watermelon take to grow or how many days it will take to start fruiting?”
I knew that it is an annual plant. After that, I read many articles to know something about it. But my watermelon plants proved every article wrong. Most of the available articles said that it takes around 45 days to start fruiting and after almost 75 to 90 days I can harvest.
But surprisingly from today (dated 5th June 2019), it has started fruiting. I sowed those seeds on 6th May and now today is 5th June. So it is being just 30 days. Today I noticed one female flower successfully pollinated and produce fruit. I hope in coming days I will see a few more fruits on my watermelon vines.
I have already shared three more posts of this series of watermelon growing. You can read those posts where I have shared my experiences of watermelon seeds sowing & germination, then repotted two seedlings in a separate pot which was unsuccessful and last one was related to the flowering of watermelon plants.
Some watermelon based recipes:
Watermelon mojito smoothie drink, Refreshing watermelon mocktail, mouthwatering watermelon ice cream
I read many articles about a lot of articles fertilizing watermelon plants regularly and so many information about chemical fertilizer and it was also said that without chemical fertilizer it would be hard to get fruits. I still decided to grow those plants organically and applies only compost and mustard cake liquid fertilizer to those plants.
