You are probably surprised after reading the title. I mean who hates aloo paratha? You are probably shocked. Are you? Aloo paratha (Indian flatbread stuffed with spicy mashed potatoes) is a popular North Indian food. It is also popular in various other parts of the country. But till a few years ago, I used to hate aloo paratha. I always tried to avoid aloo ka paratha whenever I have a chance. But why?
Before those days, I hardly had to eat aloo paratha. In my childhood, I ate homemade aloo paratha only very number of times. I used to treat paratha as same except stuffing. So I used to need a side dish like curry/sabzi to have along with aloo paratha. But when I started living in Delhi. Whenever it was served at the canteen or restaurant/dhaba, it was normally served with a pickle and/or curd/raita. No other curry/sabzi was there. It was never expected. So I normally, preferred naan/roti/kulcha etc over aloo paratha. I started avoiding ordering aloo paratha. I could not even understand why do they not have a curry/sabzi with this stuffed paratha when they have this with other types of Indian flatbread like roti/naan/kulcha? Huh!!! This is not the justice to the alu parantha.
Those days the taste of aloo paratha with pickle/curd was not suitable for me. I used to notice that other people enjoy that a lot. There was always a crowd in front of roadside aloo paratha wala in Delhi. Being a Bengali curd was for me a dessert what I loved to have after the meal. Even it was not sweet still, I always kept it aside and used to eat after the meal. I used to treat raita equally, haha. I used to have my meal then I had my raita after the meal.
But gradually I started loving the combination of aloo paratha & pickle/curd. It took time to develop the taste. Now I really enjoy it. Even I often have it at home for breakfast or lunch/dinner.
