Hello friends! How are you? What are you growing nowadays in your garden? Fruits? Vegetables? Herbs? Today I will share my experience of growing chillies in pots. Though I mostly grow chillies on the ground and surprisingly most of those plants are growing their own. I mean, I do not sow seeds on the ground. All the kitchen waste what we dispose at a place in the garden, I collect seedling from there and replant at a specified area. But I prefer to grow chilli seedlings in pots when I purchase those from a local nursery.
Growing chillies in pots
Whenever I grow a plant on the ground then I do not think about the soil preparation. Only adding some compost is enough. Then apply mustard cake liquid fertilizer fortnightly because all other plant nutrients already there in the soil.
But when it comes to preparing the soil for a pot then I need to consider its drainage system and prepare the best soil mix.
I have also shared a post related preparation of the best soil mix for plants. I simply follow that potting mix for any vegetable, haha. It makes growing vegetable in the container very simple.
For making a good drainage system, I prefer to put broken pieces of old clay pot just above the drainage hole of the pot. Then a one-inch layer of small stone chips (which is normally used to make concrete) or any other natural small sized stones, then finally I add half inch layer of normal sand. Sometimes I add a final layer of sawdust too. Sawdust helps to prevent all essential nutrients from drain out and allow to drain out extra water only. It also helps to retain some moisture.
Health benefits of chilli peppers
Chilli peppers are very rich in minerals and vitamins. It contains potassium, copper, vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin K1, vitamin A etc.
Many experts also said that it may help in natural pain relief. Regular consumption of a limited amount of chilli pepper may boost immunity power of human being. In case, you are suffering from obesity then you should include chilli pepper in your diet because it may help you to reduce weight.
The biggest size of chilli of my life
I wrote this post a few months ago. But after that, I did not complete this post and somehow I forgot about this post, haha. But today I have found this like discovering a treasure and I decided to publish this after doing some editing.
I did not mention here about the biggest size of chillies of my life what I produced two years ago. I remembered about that and started finding a few images of those chillies. But I could not find enough good quality pictures of that except this one.
I bought two seedlings of chilli, the plant grew very rapidly and produced a few numbers of big size chilli. I have never seen such chilli. So I took a few snaps. So now I got an opportunity to share it with you.
So what was your experience of growing chilli in your kitchen garden?
