Most gardeners face difficulties during the rainy season because many plants die during this season. Though it is said that rain helps to grow plants. But people who are container gardeners or yard gardeners who face waterlogging are always worried during this season. Particularly there are many places in the country where it is often raining continuously for a couple of days almost every season. So plants are severely attacked by fungus or other diseases. Many gardeners say that at least 10% of plants die during the month of July & August. I also faced those problems during this season. As far as my understanding, low light due to cloudy day & continuous rains for 3-4 days can kill many plants. That is why during this season, I prefer these 5 types of plants which are almost rainproof.
Many people will say that you need to know so many things to grow vegetables. Some people will say that not everybody can grow plants. But it is not actually true, you do not need to read multiple books, multiple videos etc. You just need to have basic knowledge what comes with experiences and following the rules of nature.
We need to grow vegetables according to the season and use natural pesticide, fungicide, PGR (plant growth promoter) which are prepared traditionally at home,. That’s it!! The truth is the nature does not need any care. So minimum care or simple care is the key of home gardening. This rule is followed by people for thousand of years when science was not that much developed.
Otherwise if we want to grow any thing during off season or we want the production more than a plant can normally produce then we definitely need extra care, extra knowledge & extra inputs.

There are a lot of gourds that we can produce during this season. Ash gourd, bitter gourd, sponge gourd, ridge gourd are popular vegetable during this season. I noticed that ash gourd & pumpkin vines really love rain if those are safe from waterlogging. You can also very easily grow brinjal in this season. Some brinjal varieties actually love rain, those plants can survive heavy rain. But you need to protect those plants from waterlogging for more than 24 hours.
Okra/Bhindi
Okra plants are very hardy plant and these plants are less prone to fungal disease. I grow plenty of okra/bhindi every year and those plants never dissatisfy me. Okra needs very little care and these plants can easily survive even after 2-3 days of continuous rain. Last year, all of my okra/bhindi plants survived even after severe cyclone Aapmphan. Now this year, all of my okra plants till now healthy even after another super cyclone Yaas.
Chilli/ginger
Chilli & ginger are not vegetables. These are spices and we need it almost every day. You can not make a single meal without adding chilli & ginger. Though chilli is an all-season plant and ginger is a seasonal spice and mostly grow during the rainy season. I never grow normal ginger, rather I prefer to grow mango flavored ginger. Did you ever use such ginger? Every year, I grow those type of ginger and store for using the whole year. Ginger is actually rain proof plant. I noticed that even after waterlogging in my yard garden for a day or two, still those plants survive every year. But nowadays I grow a few mango flavored ginger in pots too.
So these year, all of those plants I am growing during this rainy season. Some of those actually rain proof. Those plants actually love rain & waterlogging. There are some plants which enjoy rain if you can protect those from waterlogging from hours/days.
