Green mango with Bengali style mustard sauce after the storm

April 30, 2020 By admin Leave a Comment

Life is fun when you go to pick green mangoes under the tree just after the heavy storm and make kacha aam makha (Raw green mango) with kasundi (Bengali style mustard sauce). Did you ever experience this? It gives me wonderful joy and fill my moments with happiness. Can you imagine such an afternoon with this awesome food?

Though everybody is not blessed with a mango tree at his backyard or nearby area, so such people can not experience this. But people who are living in rural area often experience this during the early summer season. The ultimate flavor of raw mangoes and its sour taste makes this dish very special and more importantly that Bengali style kasundi what is essential for making this. Without kasundi this dish is not as tasty as it is.

Two or three days back, there was a heavy storm & rain in our area. The duration of the storm was very short. But I knew that I would get a few unripe mangoes in our yard garden. I went to check my garden and got two medium-size green mangoes. I kept those mangoes to use next day afternoon. So here is that green mango makha prepared with kasundi & lemon leaves.

Each & every fresh item for this food, I collected from our garden. I got 2 fresh lemon leaves, picked 2-3 green chillies from my chilli plant. Yes, life is fun when you grow your own food and be self-dependent for food.

Though most people prefer to grate green mangoes to make this. But prefer to make thin slices because you can bite & enjoy such slices when you are eating such kacha aam makha.

Rest is an individual choice, I love this type of green mango with kasundi. Many people may be possible that they never heard of it. For them, just simply take mustard seeds, ginger, green chillies, turmeric powder and blend in a grinder. The taste will not be the same as market bought kasundi but similar to that. I did this when I used to live in outside West Bengal for years. This is called Dilli ka JUGAD.

If you know actual method to make kasundi then you can share it with us by leaving a comment below.
