Gotu kola mint juice

Gotu kola mint juice! Did you ever try this? But I think that most of you do not have any idea about this drink. Is it not true? Mint is a common plant. Mint leaves (pudina patta) are also used to make various sauces, chatni or drink in India. But gotu kola (Centella Asiatica) is not a common plant and not everybody knows about this. But in Bengal, it is not an uncommon plant because it is often used to make some traditional dishes. Here it is known as thankuni pata. 

I think there are only very few people who ever tried this. If you have tried mint juice or mint based drink or even you have already tried any dishes based on gotu kola (Centella Asiatica) but I think that you never tried gotu kola mint juice. It is very delicious and I always feel good after having this gotu kola mint juice.

Gotu kola leaves are very beneficial for health and in Ayurveda, it is often used to make various medicines. If you want to know more about this gotu kola leaves then you can Google. There are so many pages available on the internet where its benefits are discussed. I was also not aware of those benefits but gotu kola based traditional drinks & dishes are very popular in West Bengal & also in Bangladesh. Those plants are often seen in rural areas during the rainy season. Gotu kola or thankuni leaves are often used in Bengali traditional dish ‘shukto’. It is very popular simple & healthy dish what often serve on various occasions.

If it is not easily available in your area then you can this plant in a container so that whenever you will want to use those leaves then you can pick those from your own garden. You just keep that container where direct sunlight does not reach for more than 2-3 hours and soil should always have enough water. So water those plants regularly.

Serves: 2 glasses
Ingredients
  • 1 cup gotu kola (Centella Asiatica) leaves
  • ½ cup mint leaves/pudina patta
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • Pinches of black salt or normal salt
  • 2 glasses of chilled water
Instructions
  1. Wash gotu kola leaves & mint leaves properly and add to a blender
  2. Add lemon juices, roasted cumin powder, salt and 1 tbsp of water
  3. Now blend it to make a smooth puree
  4. Strain it into a bowl, add residual water and stir to mix
  5. Now serve in glasses
