I know this as thankuni pata (Centella leaf) but you you may know this as Gotu kola or bai bua bak. Different people from different regions know this plant in different name but very few people only use it to make a healthy & delicious drink. Actually, very few people know the method to make such healthy thankuni pata er sharbat (Indian style bai bua bok juice or gotu kola drink).

In West Bengal where I live, thankuni pata (gotu kola leaves or bai bua bok leaves) is used for making some traditional dishes. Sukto is one of such traditional dishes. Some people even use it to make healthy & yummy thankuni pata er sharbat. It is believed that it has many medicinal benefits, so people often include this in the food menu and even prefer to have it as simple thankuni pata er sharbat like this one.
Thankuni pata & its drinks
Earlier I used to know that there is nobody except Bengali people love thankuni pata er sharbat but I was wrong. Actually, there are many other people also enjoy such drinks prepared with Centella Asiatica leaves. Bai bua bok juice is very popular drink in Thailand. It is nothing but another kind of drink prepared with thankuni pata. Some people also prefer dry Centella Asiatica leaves to make a special kind of green tea. Sometimes even fresh green Centella Asiatica leaves also used to make such green tea. I hope I will one day try such traditional Bai bua Bok drink in Thailand.

Healthy & delicious thankuni pata er sharbat served with ice cubes
(Refreshing gotu kola drink/ bai bua bok juice)
Thankuni pata er sharbat ( Indian style bai bua bok juice / Gotu kola drink ) recipe
- 1 cup hankuni/gotu kola/bai bua bok/centella leaves
- 1 cup hankuni/gotu kola/bai bua bok/centella leaves
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 3.5 glasses of water
- 3.5 glasses of water
- 1.5 tsp sugar/honey, optional
- Take centella leaves, grated ginger in a large bowl and boil for 3 minutes and rest for next 20 minutes
- Now take it in a blender, add lemon juice sugar/honey and blend to make smooth puree
- Strain that pure into a a large bowl and add chilled water and mix
- Now take ice cubes in a glass and pour gotu kola drink & serve
