Gatte? Is it a spelling mistake? 🙂 If you are not familiar with Rajasthani food then you may think this but it is not a spelling mistake. Gatte (or gatta) is very common Rajasthani food. This gatte is often added in Biriyani, pulao or any other dishes. Here gatte is used to make a special super delicious gatte chili curry.

Experiencing gatte curry for the first time
I can still remember that almost a decade ago I have tried gatte at a marriage reception party in Delhi. But that time I could not understand what was that. So I just tasted a little piece of gatte and I did not liked that because that was my first time I tried that. So of-course I did not repeat it and tried some paneer dishes. But a few years after that incident I tried gatte curry again and that time again at another Rajasthani wedding party, haha. By that time, I came to know what it is actually. I personally find gatte is an Indian version of gnocchi. Did you ever try gnocchi. I just love this food. It is a traditional Italian food.
My special gatte chili curry
Gatte is made of sattu (roasted chickpea flour), besan (chickpea flour) & maida ( all-purpose wheat flour). Some spices are also added in this flour made dough. Though traditionally only besan is used to make gatte along with some spices. But this version of gatte is also delicious. In Rajasthan, plenty of vegetables are not available in some places due to dessert & scarcity of water. So people prefer to use such flour made dishes what they can store for a longer period. As they use besan (chickpea flour) so it is healthy too.
Here ginger, garlic, tomato puree, onion, green chillies & some other spices (red chili powder, black pepper & turmeric) are used to make this tasty curry. Small pieces of capsicum bring good aroma in this curry.

I just prefer this dish in evening tiffin. It is excellent in dinner or lunch if it is served with mashed potatoes, it works good with rice too.
