Ekadashi food meal idea 1 – Devshayani ekadashi

July 20, 2022 By admin 1 Comment

10th July 2022 was Devshayani ekadashi. It is an auspicious day that comes on the eleventh day of sukla paksha in the month of Asadha of Hindu calender. It is also known as Vishnu Shayani ekadashi. Shayani means sleeping. That means Vishnu is sleeping on that day on the Sheshnaag in Skheersagar as per Hindu mythology. Lord Vishnu was on Yoga nidra on this day for four months. This four months are known as “Chaturmaas”. After four months on the day of prabodhini ekadashi Lord Vishnu awakes from yoga nidra. So on this special day, many people eat only niramish (or vrat special food) for various purpose. So here is an awesome ekadashi food meal idea on the last Vishnu shayani ekadashi.

Special sattu sharbat

I always love this awesome refreshing drink. It is very healthy and very easy to make. Anybody can make this healthy drink at home. This drink only need a few ingredients. If you are living in Northern Indian states then you definitely know what it is. Sattu is nothing but powder form of whole roasted brown chickpeas. Mint leaves are often added to this sharbat. Most people enjoy this drink during the summer season. I often consume this healthy drink for my breakfast. I prepare it with extra sattu and help me to kill my hunger for longer duration.

Luchi, niramish aloo sabzi & brinjal fries for lunch

During ekadashi people do not eat rice, non vegetarian items, red lentils, garlic and onion. Many people even avoid wheat. But in West Bengal people consume wheat flour. It may sound weird because in Northern Indian states people avoid wheat flour-based items like roti, poori, naan, kulcha, paratha etc. But Bengal people eat those during Ekadashi days. So we had luchi and one niramish (without onion & garlic) aloo sabji. We also had brinjal fries.

Milk & roti for dinner

Milk and roti are my favourite meal for dinner. I often have it along with mangoes, particularly during the summer season. Nothing is more simple and enjoyable for dinner. Milk-based any other dishes (kheer or payesh, rabri etc) can go with roti or poori or luchi.
