Banana is a miracle plant because all of this plant’s parts can be used to make various delicious dishes. Though banana is considered as a fruit plant but at the same time, its unripe fruit is considered as a popular vegetable. There are so many delicious dishes which are prepared with this unripe banana fruit. Raw banana fruit is also used to make chips. Not just its ripe & unripe fruits, its stem & flowers are also used to make some awesome vegetarian dishes what will definitely surprise you. Wait! Here it does not end. Even its leaves are also traditionally used many mouthwatering dishes. So here is a list of such 5 delicious dishes prepared with various parts of a banana plant.

In many regions of this world, fresh banana leaves are used to serve foods too. Still nowadays in rural India, banana leaves are used to offer food to guests on various occasion like marriage reception party, first rice ceremony etc.

Thor bothi (Banana stem recipe)

If you are a Bengali then you have definitely eaten banana stem as a vegetable. It is used in mixed vegetable, garur dal. Sometimes it is cooked just simply stir fry. Such simple stir-fried banana stem is called thor bothi. It is a very healthy & delicious food. You can have thor bothi with plain rice.

Mochar ghonto (Banana flowers recipe)

Banana flowers or blossom is a common vegetable in India. It is called mocha in Bengali. That mocha or banana blossom is used to make this awesome Bengali style ghonto or dry curry. This mochar ghonto is very aromatic as well as very very healthy.

Raw banana kofta curry (Raw banana fruit recipe)

This is another mouthwatering dish prepared with raw banana fruit. Though kofta is a popular Indian food. But most of the people generally make mix vegetables or paneer kofta at home. Okay, now I have shared many delicious dishes prepared with different parts of a banana plant like its stem, flowers, raw banana fruit & ripe banana fruit. But what about its leaves & roots. Banana plant leaves are used to make various vegetarian & non-vegetarian dishes in West Bengal & Bangladesh. Such dishes are called paturi like ilish paturi, vetki patrui, shim paturi etc. Pata means leaf in the Bengali language. That is why such leave made dishes are called paturi. Though here leaves are not eaten, it is only used to add flavor to that food.

Now, what about its roots? Honestly speaking I have no idea about any dish prepared with its root. There may be some dishes but I do not know any of those.
