Crispy dal pakoda – nothing can beat this !!!

You may have tried various types of pakoda but have you ever tried dal pakoda? Dal pakoda with “chai ki chuski” is a fantastic moment to enjoy. Specially when it is raining outside and you are having masala tea & dal pakoda then nothing can beat this. Dal pakoda is also known as dal vada in many places.

Crispy dal pakoda is unbeatable with masala tea, specially when it is raining outside.

Ingredients
  • Split peas – 1 cup (0.75)
  • Ginger – 1 tsp (paste)
  • Black cumin – 2 tsp
  • Green chili – 2 (chopped)
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp
  • Poppy seeds – 2 tsp
  • Oil – 1.5 tbsp
  • Salt – as needed
Instructions
  1. Soak split peas in water for 4 hours and then grind it to make paste (refer detailed description)
  2. Now add all other ingredients in this paste
  3. Add 2 tsp hot oil in that paste too
  4. Heat oil in a cooking pan and put equal & small quantities of that mixture or paste in oil. Fry all mixture in 2 or 3 batches
  5. Serve dal pakoda with masala tea.

Dal pakoda recipe

Preparation time : 4 hours
Cooking time : 20 mins
Yield : 10 to 12 pieces

Ingredients

  • Split peas / matar dal – 1 cup (0.75)
  • Ginger / adrak – 1 tsp (paste)
  • Black cumin / kala jeera – 2 tsp
  • Green chili / hara mirch – 2 (chopped)
  • Turmeric powder / haldi – 1 tsp
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp
  • Poppy seeds / posta dana / khaskhas – 2 tsp
  • Oil – 1.5 tbsp
  • Salt – as needed

Instructionsdal pakoda mixture

  1. Soak split peas (matar dal) in water for 4 hours and then grind it in wet grinder to make paste
  2. Now add all other ingredients (ginger paste, black cumin, chopped green chilies, turmeric powder, baking powder, poppy seeds & salt)  in this paste
  3. Add 2 tsp hot oil in that paste too
  4. Heat sunflower oil in a cooking pan and put equal & small quantities (in pakoda shape) of that mixture or paste in oil with your hand and deep fry those. Fry all mixture in 2 or 3 batches (based on your cooking pan size and oil quantity)
  5. Serve dal pakoda with masala tea and red & green chutney.
