Getting backlinks becomes very essential and blog commenting is perhaps the smartest way to get some backlinks within a short time period. IS NOT SO?
For every blogger or website owner, blog traffic is the most important parameter to examine the performance of the website owner’s effort. Whatever you are writing and for what purpose if someone is not reading your blog then it is your time to rethink whether you are doing it the right way. So how will you get traffic to your blog?
The solution is quite simple – make your blog SEO friendly to get enough organic traffic and promote your blog on every possible online platform to get referral traffic.
Haha! I think you are annoyed now because these two you already know. RIGHT? Bloggers spend a lot of time on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) but most of the time they usually fail to make pleased Google ( Only Google? hmmm… because other search engines do not matter to many bloggers including me). So some bloggers also spend maximum time for promoting their blog but still no impact, no social media traffic …. no referral traffic.
Is this your case also? You are working hard since last few months or years but no reward for your hard work? Does nobody bother about your blog? Then you are at a position where you should take an effective blog commenting strategy and see what will happen in a couple of months.
Blog commenting strategy? What is it? You may think it is something that happens naturally. You do not need a strategy at all. Huh… blog commenting strategy? Total NONSENSE.
Is it exactly what you are thinking right now? Then you are exactly at the same place what I was thinking a few months back. Better say few weeks as I do not have any backlink earned from blog commenting, as I just used to make comment on random blogs, did not add value to my comments, the result is, almost nobody even published my comment. That is why I am saying, … Yes, you definitely should have a blog commenting strategy and stick to that to reach your goal.
But before getting into that you certainly want to know the benefits of blog commenting because if you do not know actual benefits of blog commenting then you never can keep you motivated to continue commenting on various blogs. Secondly, let us discuss issues regarding such blog commenting activities. Is there any?
Benefits of blog commenting
So what do you think? What will be the benefits of blog commenting?
- If you are blogging or running a website since last few months then you must know that you can get some free referral traffic from blog commenting, it may not be a significant amount but still, you will get some traffic. It may be a big deal if you get involved in any controversial topic or comment something really interesting on a big website or blog. In such case, you may get really some good amount of traffic within few hours or days.
- Another benefit of blog commenting is brand building or brand recognition. Here you make visible yourself almost on every blog in your niche and where your potential reader is hanging out and spend good time. 🙂 So be there, spend some time there and interact with them through blog commenting. That way those potential readers also will start you recognized as a blogger in the same niche and they may visit your blog and start recognizing you.
- The last but most important benefit is getting backlinks from other blogs in your niche. More relevant and high-quality backlinks will help you to improve your page rank on SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). But does still the question remain unanswered? Because you are getting a backlink just from doing blog commenting. So is it a quality backlinks? If you are commenting on a blog in your niche and blog page is also relevant to your own blog, then also many people think it does not have any effect on blog’s SEO. I simply do not understand why people are thinking so? May most backlinks what you have earned from blog commenting are NOFOLLOW but still, it has more impacts on SEO than any backlinks from social media sites. Even some blogs allow you to use anchor text and add a link in comments, those are also much more helpful. You can also earn DOFOLLOW backlinks from blog commenting on some particular blog but in such case, you need to add some significant value to your comment, otherwise, it will not get posted.
So you definitely can understand blog commenting will increase your website traffic directly and also indirectly.
Issues of Blog commenting
Without any strategy, if you keep commenting on any random blog then it may affect your blog’s SEO adversely. More importantly, once you have built up backlinks from some random sites then it is almost impossible to delete such backlinks because you do not have control on other’s blog.
Another issue is selecting anchor texts for blog commenting. Most blog owners do not allow you to add any link in your comment, they leave you with only one option that uses your name (or your blog name) as an anchor text for your link. So you can only use a few variations in your name, if you do not do so then all anchor texts will be the same and it will look so spammy.
If you have a multi-niche blog then it is very difficult to develop a list of blogs for commenting. If you start commenting on each and every blog of your list then it will take a longer period to impact on your blog’s SEO or it may impact negatively on your site’s SEO.
Blog commenting strategy
1. Set your goal and understand blog SEO
Ohh, again another goal? DAMN! But how any goal can come in blog commenting?
Yes, set up a goal for commenting on various blogs is important. If you have a multi-niche blog then you should give different priorities to each blogging niche to move on. You can not move with all niches at the same time. If you want to do so then you need more time and more workforce. I mean in such case you need to hire some people to do on behalf of you. But that is not possible for every blogger.
Same way if you own a single niche site then also you should prioritized your keywords and then go ahead to comment on other blogs, involve in discussion and leave your footprint by adding URLs of own blog pages to your comments. Select blog-pages based on keywords what you have selected and given higher priority.
Once you have reached certain blog comments for each niche or keywords then move ahead and take other niches and keywords also in consideration.
2. Develop a list of blogs
Make a list of your competitors
So who are your competitors? Do you know them? Did you already identify them?
You definitely know a few of your competitors. You read their blog posts regularly and also make comments on their blog posts. Till this, everything is okay. But how many competitors you have identified? If it is 5 or 6 then add some more competitors in that list based on its niche and readers geographical location and demography. Though you can not access Google Analytics data but still you can understand who are readers of those blogs by knowing their topic & writing tone, sometimes even bloggers also mention such thing in their blog posts. You can use some tools to know this like SEMRUSH and Alexa. Make a list of at least ten blogs who are your competitors.
Identify leading blogs in your niche
For every blogging niche, there are some bloggers who are actually leading that niche and everybody follow those bloggers. They enjoy higher domain authority, huge organic traffic and strong social network. So make a list of those successful bloggers in your niche.
Analyse your competitors
Now you have a list of your competitors and niche leaders. So you need further investigation to get some more blogs or websites in your niche. Here you will do spying your competitors and also leaders in your niche. For doing so you need some tools.
moz.com – Open this site, it is a God’s gift for every online marketer. Here you can check where your competitors are hanging out and from where leaders in your niche get backlinks. So click on Open Site Explorer (comes under Free SEO Tools) and type URLs of your competitors and niche leaders and research where they made comments. Make a complete list of each blog URL. Do this for all competitors and niche leaders. You will find interesting things that there are some other blog pages where most of your competitors and niche leaders commented, that means they all also spying each other. So you have found some of such opportunities of discussions and try involve in those matters. Forceful involvement in other matter is not always a bad practice. Haha! Do it.
Okay, now you have a list of blogs where your competitors and leader in your blogging niche are commenting. Make this list as long as possible (minimum 50 blogs) and increase this list as you are being older with your blog.
DOFOLLOW blog list
Make a separate list for all DO FOLLOW blogs and take special care of those.
Now how will you find DO FOLLOW blogs?
Use DropMyLink to find DO FOLLOW blogs based on your keywords or niche. This site is very useful and user-friendly. Here you can find blogs with DO FOLLOW comment and intense debate etc. So Search your keywords or niche and get blogs related to those.
Use moz.com to find DO FOLLOW comments blogs. Here you will search any of your competitor or niche leading blog as mentioned above and get a list of blog pages where they made comments. Now select link type ‘only follow’, filter result and get all DO FOLLOW blog links.
3. Commenting strategy
Now at this point, you have four lists of blogs.
The first list, blogs which are your competitors. You have selected those blog based on niche and target audiences.
The second list, blogs which are actually leaders in your niche. All such blogs enjoy high domain authority and better Alexa rank (though nowadays many bloggers do not consider Alexa rank).
The third list, blogs where bloggers in the first two list are hanging out 🙂 , spying what your competitors and leaders read regularly and make comments very often.
The fourth list, blogs allow of DO FOLLOW comment with higher domain authority.
Now start commenting on those blogs. Make at least 70 comments each week. You can allow a particular day of a week for blog commenting, so do maximum commenting on that day and do 5-6 comments on other days. Take special care during commenting on DO FOLLOW blog and try to do at least 4-5 comments on such blogs.
Blog commenting is something that you can not ignore. Though you will see the effect on SEO after few weeks or even few months but you will definitely see some instant referral traffic to your blog if you make comment on other blog posts earlier than anybody and add value to your comment.
If your comment looks spammy then everybody will ignore your comment and even blog owner may reject your comment. So read blog post properly before commenting and comment something relevant, share a personal experience or something controversial what comes in your mind relevant to the blog post.
Blog commenting is an on-going process till you continue blogging but at the beginning, you need to take special care in your interaction on other websites with other bloggers & readers, so make a proper strategy of your blog commenting process to get maximum impact within a shorter period. So …
