It is my personal experience that today it is not that much easy to rank your post for a particular keyword. It becomes more competitive when you write something related to food. So just talking about food is not adequate or just sharing a great recipe is not enough. Most of the popular food recipes have been already shared hundreds (or may be thousands) times on the web. So you should stop dreaming to get higher rank for your keyword related to any food or recipes. It is also true for most of the other overcrowded blogging niches. If you are newbie blogger then you might not realize this till now but most seasoned and experienced bloggers can realize this fact. But still, you can keep yourself one step ahead of others by adopting best writing style for food blog post.
Best writing style for your food blog post to engage readers
Well researched, informative and unique post
Readers always prefer well-researched and informative articles. If you are not adding any value in your post for readers then why they will visit your blog again and read your posts.
If you have a tech blog then there is an opportunity to solve problems of your readers through your post. So search most searched problems on different forums (like Quora etc), do your own research, find the best solution and write a post.
If you are running a food blog, (sometimes it is true even for travel blog or life style blog) then you can share your personal onion, past experience related to that food and unique story what add unique value in your post and most readers like this. Readers always love such post where they find something different than any other blog-posts.
Avoid short post
Did you ever think the query you have searched last time could be answered within 100 to 200 words?
Most of the time you want to reconfirm that the solution given in an article or blog post is actually a solution to the exact problem you are searching for. Am I right?
So you definitely expect more words from author to explain the problem and/or his or her thinking on that problem. If it is not the same problem then you will definitely search again for the solution.
Once you find solutions to your problem, next you check whether that is comprehensive or not and can you apply that solution to your case or not? If yes then what result you will get?
So the whole thing can not be explained within 100-200 words. Your readers are also thinking similar way and they are actually looking for a comprehensive solution to the exact problem they really have.
This was from your readers point of view
Now what search engines think? Particularly what Mr. Google 🙂 think about you?
In most cases, it is observed that well researched and in-depth posts come on the first page of Google search results. That means Search engines also like large and well-researched posts.
So well researched and in-depth post is key to success and increase website traffic drastically.
But as a food blogger sometimes it becomes more difficult to find even hundred words apart from the recipe. Is it not true? You definitely have faced such issues and honestly speaking, I also often face such issue. Now in case you just writing about a food (not sharing the recipe) then it would be really such a boring task to do. Most people write repetitive words, phrase again and again because they do not find words except the exact story they want to tell through that blog post. Yes, it is often enough to make your audience happy and satisfied but what about search engines? Are they happy? Nope, so it is always important to part of best writing style for a blog-post to add sufficient words in your blog post to satisfy both your audience and search engines.
Maintain keyword density
What is Keyword?
A keyword can be a single word or a short phrase what describes the topic of the post to the best possible extent. You can select one or multiple keywords for your article or post. It is important for SEO point of view. Maintaining right keyword density is best way to tell the search engine about the topic of your blog post. A phrase as a keyword (Long tail keyword) is more effective than just a single word as a keyword.
Free tools to find keywords:
Google Keyword Planner, Keyword Tool etc.
The easiest way to get huge organic traffic to your blog is the selection of right keywords and maintain a right density of keywords in your post. Keyword density approx 2% (repeat 2 times per hundred words) is good for any blog post. Anything less than or more this 2% may badly affect your organic traffic. But there are still many successful bloggers who maintain lesser keyword density but still, they are getting huge traffic to their blog-posts.
I have done so many experiments with keywords in this blog as I had no such proper knowledge related to SEO before running this blog. I did many big mistakes but then I started monitoring performances of each keyword and learned a lot throughout my blogging journey.
So start monitoring performances of each keyword and apply your knowledge and take necessary action.
Organic traffic is most valuable traffic for any online marketer and helps to increase website traffic to a great extent.
Now coming to issues what as a food blogger you may face to pick a right keyword for a food recipe. This is a very difficult task because if you share a popular food recipe then it is definitely a highly competitive and most people fight for the same keyword because variation will be so less in a case of such keyword. I mean if you want to share a recipe of veg biryani then you will have only a few options (like veg biryani, vegetable biryani etc) in keywords to choose for that. But most of the cases you will see a food bloggers include all such keywords in that posts because they do not want to lose a single traffic. SO YES, IT IS TOUGH. Still, you can make it a long tail keyword by adding detailed describing words (most delicious, easy, best, favorite, simple, tastiest etc).
Use short paragraphs, bold keywords, sub headings
If visitors come to your blog post but do not read then it will not serve ultimate goal to have a blog and work hard to write so many articles. So you need visitors who actually want to read your posts.
Actually, visitors are always in hurry (like me) and they will give you 2-3 seconds to impress and within that time period, you will let visitor know about whole topic. If they are impressed only then they will go further and read in detailed.
So it is your responsibility to keep paragraphs short, make some keywords bold and add sub headings to make whole text more comprehensive.
Type important phrases in italic shaped letters, use bullet points in some cases, distinguished color to separate important words or phrases etc.
All such practices will help to impress visitors within few seconds and this also control bounce rate of your blog.
It works for almost every blogging niche. So if you are food bloggers then do not worry because you do not need to take different care of your food blog. You should also use short paragraphs (wherever possible), make bold/italic your keywords and use sub headings wherever possible. This is the best writing style to impress your audiences.
Avoid misleading headline
How will you react if a shopkeeper sell you sugar and saying that is wheat flour?
What will be your reaction when you will find 30 size jean labeled 32 size?
You will be annoyed and shout on salesman and probably you will never visit such store again. Right?
Same thing will happen here if you add misleading headline. Such technique actually known as black hat method (SEO piont of view). You may receive benefit for initial few days or months but it is not sustainable and in long run you will loose traffic.
So use appropriate headlines to your posts to increase website traffic and grow blog for longer period.
I always try to avoid such misleading headlines. It is always true whether you are a food blogger or running a blog related to any other niche. But as a food blogger you should be more responsible to show more honesty and write appropriate headline according to the blog content. If your recipe is saying it is a traditional recipe but you are actually sharing your own absolutely different recipe then you are actually cheating your visitors. So you should always avoid misleading headlines as a part of best writing style for your food blog post.
Maintain friendly and polite tone
As discussed earlier, maintain a friendly and polite tone throughout the post. Always write in a manner like you are talking to your readers. This another important skill what you may need to develop to adopt best writing style for your food blog.
