It’s mid of May. That means the temperature of most regions of the country already reaches above 35 degree Celsius. But we are staying inside our home because of LOCKDOWN due to COVID19 spreads. You can not go outside, can not even watch television because repeat shows are telecast nowadays except news channel. So people mostly concentrate on homemade food. “What to eat for breakfast” or “What to eat for lunch?” or “What to eat for dinner?” or “How many people are infected in the state/country/world?” All the discussion are limited to those queries. Bengali people are also doing the same. As it is summer now so I believe most Bengali people have already tried these 5 unique but super delicious Bengali summer meals.

Dal, rice and aloo jhinge posto
If your ancestors belong to West Bengal then it is also your favorite lunch. Is this not true? I mean it is definitely true otherwise you are an actual GHOTI people. Plain rice and biulir dal along with aloo jhinge posto. Though people can make aloo posto & biulir dal throughout the year. But aloo jhinge posto is a perfect summer dish what being a Bengali you will definitely enjoy.
Panta bhaat
Do you know what panta bhaat is? It is very popular summer food in West Bengal as well as in Bangladesh. So almost every Bengali people loves this meal. It is basically a semi-fermented rice. It helps to control body temperature during summer days. People often add lemon juice (gandharaj lebu preferable), kasundi (Bengali style mustard sauce), roasted dry red chilli, salt to the panta bhaat. They preferred to have mashed boiled potatoes, fried hilsha (ilish) fish, dal pakoda, raw onion, raw green chilli etc.
Dumurer dalna and rice
How many of you know dumur (Indian fig)? It is a popular vegetable in many regions of India. It is known as gular in Hindi. This vegetable is full of nutrition and is used to make various traditional dishes. In West Bengal, people make a traditional dish called dumurer dalna. This is a wonderful summer dish and most people love to have this with plain rice.
Paat shaker jhol and rice
Eta abar ki? Don’t you love jute leaves curry? I think almost every Bengali love it but preparation may vary. This paat shaker jhol is really super delicious. I simply do not need anything if I have paat shaker jhol in a meal. It is mostly served with plain rice along with kasundi (traditional Bengali style mustard sauce).
Green jackfruit biryani
Jackfruit is a popular fruit but when it is unripe or young then it is considered as a vegetable. Young jackfruit is called as ‘ECHOR’ in Bengali. Many people called it as gachh patha (or plant meat). This a popular vegetable during summer season. It is also prepared as meat curry. It is often used to make biryani. Did you ever try this green jackfruit biryani. It is super delicious and you will forget the taste or mutton biryani.
