5 things to do before you start a food blog

June 6, 2017 By admin 1 Comment

Food blogging is one of the most popular blogging niches and also one of the most competitive blogging niches. It is because there is at least one person in a family who can cook AND a good number of those people actually take cooking so passionately. Each day they try to improve their cooking skill and try something new or at least attempt to do the same thing in an unconventional way. I think you will definitely agree with me. Is it NOT true? But do you agree that everybody who blogs on food recipes & cooking is actually love cooking? Or they just decided one day and start a food blog. What do you think? True or it is absolutely a wrong statement?

Okay, you can not know about others but are you sure about yourself? CONFUSED? Then you should do below mentioned 5 things just before you start a food blog.

start a food blog 1

5 things to do before you start a food blog

Make 4-5 new dishes and ask for feedback from your family members

This is most important thing to do for self-assessment because if you are actually not a good cook then you never can impress your readers. Do not think all your readers are newbies which will be absolutely wrong because most of your readers actually love cooking and some of them may be expert in cooking too. So NEVER think that you will be able to impress readers with excellent food pictures. I know it is important but your recipes are more important than pictures. So make four or five new dishes and offer your family members, relatives or friends and ask for feedback from them. If they give positive feedback for at least two or three dishes then only you should think to start a food blog.

Ask yourself about your passion

If you can cook that not means you are so passionate about cooking or you love to create new recipes. It may be due to nobody else does cook in your family or it becomes your practice but your passion lies in singing or gardening or in something else. Suppose you love cooking but you are more passionate about traveling then you should think about travel blog, not a food blog. I initially start blogging about money, finance & banking but that was not my passion, so could not continue that blogging niche and then, finally I started blogging about food.

How often you actually cook? – Find answer

Okay, this may not be so critical question to many of you but it is good to know before you start a blog. It is not so critical means if you are not cooking daily that does not sense that you should not start a food blog. Okay, let me make it clear. Suppose you just want to make grilled food or baked food then you will definitely cook those daily. Or someone else in your family actually cooks in your house but still, you try to make some delicious foods for your family members. It is also an excellent thing because here you are actually showing your passion. So find an answer of that and find a logical conclusion where you will be convinced to start a food blog.

Do you prefer to try local food when you are traveling? – Ask yourself

Well, this is another excellent way to know about your passion for food. You will definitely agree with me if I would say, “Food lovers always find local foods whenever they are traveling in a new city or location”.  What would you say? Well, not everyone will do but most food lovers will try few new dishes for at least one day. This actually shows their passion for food and willingness to explore various other cuisines.

Do you actually know all common ingredients for cooking? – Do a self-test

Did your do such self-assessment? I think you should do this if you want to start a food blog. If you do not identify most of the common ingredients needed to make normal dishes in your house then you should think one more time before you start a food blog. Okay, if you start it for just a hobby then it is fine but you should not expect more in this situation because once you start building a blog with too much enthusiasm but without any prior experience in cooking then it will disappoint you very soon. So it is better to start a food blog with no intention of monetization in near future.
